HUNTINGBURG — The company that will construct workforce housing at Washington and Fifth streets in Huntingburg has had a lot of experience with constructing apartment complexes.
Paragus Inc. of Indianapolis, has constructed more than 40 apartment complexes, office buildings, homes and retail properties in its 29 years of operation. But it has never constructed in this part of Indiana. RICHMOND, Ind. — Next summer, the roads won't be the only things having a little work done in downtown Richmond.
A handful of businesses will get a new look as well, thanks to the city's facade project through the Stellar Communities program DELPHI - The city of Delphi is celebrating the completion of $23 million in improvements as part of Indiana’s Stellar Communities Designation Program. Delphi was named a Stellar Community in 2012. Since that time, the city has renovated the Delphi Opera House, upgraded downtown building facades and underground water mains, and made improvements to its trail system and streetscapes, among others. Mayor Shane Evans calls the work a “significant milestone.”
INDIANAPOLIS - Leaders from Culver and Madison were at the Statehouse today to celebrate their designations as 2017 Stellar Communities. Culver Town Manager Jonathan Leist says the Marshall County city's plan focuses on making it a better and more affordable place to live year-round. Madison Mayor Damon Welch says his city's pitch centered on leveraging assets like the Ohio River, and the renovation and reuse of historic locations. The communities are now eligible for funding and state resources to support substantial quality of place projects.
INDIANAPOLIS - Lieutenant Governor Suzanne Crouch has unveiled the 2017 Stellar Communities designees. The city of Madison and the town of Culver were chosen out of a group of six finalists and are now eligible to receive funding and access to state resources to assist with substantial quality of place projects.
Stellar experience: Improvement project planners tout 'treemendous' future Stellar experience10/4/2017
GREENSBURG – Eighteen months of planning culminated in a figurative red carpet rollout for state officials Tuesday that simultaneously highlighted the city’s storied past, its optimistic present, and what representatives of multiple local agencies believe will lead to a “treemendous” future.
Officials representing close to a dozen state agencies took a bus tour of the sites of several planned quality of life improvements, including a dog park, splash pad, amphitheater and children’s play space, and saw for themselves a vision of Greensburg’s future that has occupied the minds of locals pushing to receive a prestigious state designation for the better part of a year and a half. Six years ago Indiana began a Stellar Communities program for the purpose of encouraging the cities and towns across the state to plan improvements and provide money to make those improvements possible.
Mayor Brian Wyndham is exploring how to win Stellar Communities designation for Brazil. GREENSBURG — The Greensburg-Decatur County Chamber of Commerce are working on the marketing and branding of Greensburg, which has taken a step forward with the tagline: “There’s so much to discover here.”
Life in Greensburg (lifeingreensburg.com) was presented at Honda Manufacturing of Indiana, the title sponsor of the marketing campaign. The interactive county guide is easily accessible via desktop and mobile devices, giving interested Greensburg-goers a look at categories such as quality of life, economic growth, places to eat, things to do, local shopping, and where to stay. “We got an overwhelming positive response from those who attended,” Greensburg-Decatur County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Jeff Emsweller said. The city’s Utilities Service Board on Wednesday voted to give $100,000 toward the city’s application a state Stellar Communities grant.
Mayor Joe Yochum asked board members to give $25,000 per year for the next four years, money that will go toward the $200,000 the city needs to raise in private match dollars should its effort to be named a Stellar community be successful. CULVER, Ind. - A small Michiana town is hoping to score big this year by earning the coveted ‘Stellar Community’ designation. Culver’s Town Manager walks ABC 57 through their plan.
Culver is a finalist for the second year in a row, so they’re revamping their efforts as the due date approaches. “I don’t think there’s another town in Indiana like Culver,” said Culver Town Manager, Jonathan Leist. This ‘small town with surprising sophistication’ is hoping to add ‘stellar’ to that motto come November. “It’s basically a program designed to reward communities that are dedicated towards best practices as far as growing your community, growing your population, growing your assessed value, and improving income. It’s not a grant program, but there are dollars attached to being a Stellar designee,” said Leist. That’s because for the next four years, their town in essence would get a fast pass for grants, which usually add up to $6 to $12 million. Last year, Culver was a finalist but didn’t win. |
